Pere Marquette State Park, Grafton, Illinois; Feburary 2009

Campsite #2
It was 70 degrees on Saturday, after being below freezing earlier in the week. It made for a muddy campsite due to the snowmelt, but it was great weather for outdoor cooking.

The lodge at Pere Marquette was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps from stone quarried in the area.
Play a giant game of chess, dine, or just sit by the fire.

Sunset from the porch of the lodge.
Shamus the Wonder Cat on our hike.

A view of the Illinois river from the peak of the Goat Cliff Trail. The park does a great job of mapping & labeling the trails.

America's national bird, the bald eagle, makes its winter home here, soaring high along the cliffs and dining on fresh fish from the Illinois River.
